The Faculty of Engineering, Bayero University Kano (BUK), has congratulated the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, on his emergence as the 35th President of the Society, while seeking closer institutional collaboration to advance engineering education and professional development.
Leading a delegation to the National Engineering Centre, Abuja, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Prof. Abdussamad Umar Jibia, said it was the tradition of the Faculty to identify with its distinguished alumni who attain positions of leadership and national prominence. He was accompanied by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the NSE Kabuga Branch, Engr. Dr. Gambo H. Yunusa; the Head of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Engr. Dr. Musa M. Bello; and other senior academics of the Faculty.
The Dean commended the NSE President for his continued commitment to Bayero University Kano, particularly the Faculty of Engineering, noting that he has consistently maintained a strong relationship with his alma mater. He added that the Faculty looks forward to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Society of Engineers in areas of professional development, capacity building, research and institutional advancement.
Prof. Jibia further highlighted the remarkable growth of the Faculty, which has expanded from three academic departments to eight, producing graduates who are making significant contributions to engineering practice across Nigeria and beyond. He described Engr. Rabiu as one of the Faculty’s proud alumni whose accomplishments continue to inspire the next generation of engineers.
In his response, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers expressed appreciation to the Dean and members of the delegation for travelling from Kano to Abuja to felicitate with him on his election as President of the Society. He described Bayero University Kano as a great institution that laid the foundation for his professional career and recalled the warm reception hosted in his honour by the Vice-Chancellor and Principal Officers of the University following his election as President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
Engr. Rabiu noted that he is the first alumnus of Bayero University Kano to serve as President of COREN and now President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. He commended the Dean for the innovative developments taking place within the Faculty and congratulated the management on its sustained growth and expanding academic programmes.
The NSE President reaffirmed the Society’s readiness to support the Faculty of Engineering in achieving greater heights through strategic collaboration and professional engagement.
