
The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, has officially taken possession of the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the NSE Mass Housing Scheme. The document, duly signed by the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), was presented by the Chairman of FCT Civil Service Commission, a Past President of NSE, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, FNSE, FAEng, OFR on Friday, April 24, 2026, in Abuja.
The President was accompanied by the Deputy President of NSE, Engr. Valerie Ifueko Agberagba, FNSE, Past President, Engr. Tasiu Gidari-Wudil, FNSE, mni, Past Vice President, Engr. Aisha Umar, FNSE and Engr. Bello Gwarzo Abdullahi, FNSE. Receipt of the C of O is a major milestone which marks a step in the realisation of the NSE Mass Housing Scheme, an initiative conceived to provide sustainable, affordable and eco-friendly housing for Engineers and staff of the Society within the Federal Capital Territory.
The concept of the housing scheme dates back to August 17, 2010, when the then Head of Membership Services, Engr. Ovens F. Ehimatie, FNSE proposed the idea under the NSE welfare programme for members to the former Executive Secretary, Engr. Ahmed K. Amshi, FNSE advocating for a structured response to the persistent housing challenges faced by professionals in the Territory.
Engagement with FCDA was commenced immediately it was presented to the President in 2010. A major breakthrough came in 2014 with Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, FNSE, FAEng receiving the Offer of Statutory Right of Occupancy.
The years 2024–2025 witnessed a renewed and vigorous pursuit of the formalisation of the Mass Housing Scheme land and with the successful acquisition of the Certificate of Occupancy, the NSE is now positioned to proceed to the next phase of development, bringing to fruition a long-standing vision that has spanned over a decade of strategic advocacy, leadership continuity and institutional collaboration.
