The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has urged engineers in the country to leverage artificial intelligence (AI)-driven creativity to become cyberpreneurs in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital economy.
The NIEEE President, Dr Felix Adegboye, made the call on Thursday during a national webinar on cyberpreneurship, tagged “Digither 2026.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Digither is a flagship initiative of the NIEEE designed to empower girls and young women to thrive in the digital economy.
The webinar, themed “AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future,” was held in commemoration of International Girls in ICT Day.
Adegboye said the convergence of artificial intelligence and engineering innovation presents unprecedented opportunities for wealth creation and problem-solving.
He added that engineers leveraging AI to build scalable digital solutions would be better positioned to succeed as cyberpreneurs and drive national technological growth.
“The new frontier of artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept; it is the most powerful ‘co-pilot’ in our creative arsenal.
“When we speak of AI-driven creativity, we are not talking about machines replacing the human spark.
“ We are talking about machines amplifying it. This is about how we can leverage AI tools to improve our earnings,” he said.
The association’s Vice President, Dr Atinuke Owolabi, said the programme aims to equip participants with the skills needed to turn creativity into income and build sustainable ventures in the AI era.
Owolabi commended the government for strides made in advancing digital transformation, expanding connectivity, and creating opportunities within the technology ecosystem.
“These efforts are commendable and are laying a solid foundation for national growth.
“As we build on this progress, we advocate greater focus on inclusive digital policies that intentionally empower girls and young women in ICT.
“This includes expanding access to digital infrastructure in underserved communities, integrating AI and emerging technologies into educational systems, and supporting innovation hubs, among others,” she said.
The facilitator of the event, Dr Mary Adedoyin of Lagos State University, said embracing AI-driven innovation allows cyberpreneurs to transcend traditional boundaries.
Adedoyin, who spoke on “AI-Driven Creativity and Innovation: Turning Ideas into Tech-Driven Businesses,” said AI has the capacity to turn abstract concepts into scalable products and services that define the future of the digital economy.
“It is time to leverage these intelligent tools to validate your vision, optimise operations, and launch tech-driven ventures that solve real-world problems with unprecedented precision,” she said.
The webinar also featured a workshop session on how to earn online using artificial intelligence tools and other digital skills.
