
The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) on February 5, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Institute and the power sector. The NIEEE team was led by the President of the Institute, Engr. Felix A. Adegboye, FNIEEE, and included Engr. Atinuke Owolabi, FNIEEE, Vice President, ICT Engineering Section; Engr. Maiyaki Ohida, Chairman, Abuja Chapter; and Engr. Kazeem Lawal, Executive Secretary.
The NIEEE team were received cheerfully by the Managing Director of NISO, Engr. A. B Mohammed FNSE, alongside the General Manager(MD’s Office), General Manager (L/CS) and other Management team.
The President of NIEEE expressed appreciation to the Managing Director of NISO for the opportunity to visit and formally introduced the Institute, stating the purpose of the courtesy visit. He explained that NIEEE is interested in collaborating with NISO in the area of capacity building, particularly through the joint organization of technical workshops for NISO staff and other personnel in the power sector. He also requested that NISO provide opportunities for young engineers to undergo training or internship within the NISO operational environment in order to enhance their practical experience and professional development.
In addition, the President mentioned that a platform could be created for research activities aimed at minimizing system collapse and optimizing load dispatch.
He further informed the Managing Director of his investiture as the 22nd President of NIEEE, scheduled to take place at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, by 11:00 a.m. on February 21, 2026.
In his response, the Managing Director of NISO said “This is the right time to bring the institute closer to the industry especially in the part of our power sector”. He congratulated the President of NIEEE on his new office and thanked the team for the visit.
*Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as Technical Partners *
The Managing Director expressed NISO’s desire to enter into a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as technical partners with NIEEE to provide a structured framework for collaboration between both organizations
Internship and Capacity Building
The Managing Director approved the establishment of an internship structure within NISO to support the training of young electrical engineers. This initiative is aimed at providing practical industry exposure and strengthening technical competence among young professionals.
Investiture of the NIEEE President
The Managing Director confirmed his intention to attend the investiture of the 22nd President of NIEEE, scheduled for February 21, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, by 11:00 a.m. He stated that he would be accompanied by the Executive Director (Finance) and the General Manager in support of the Institute.
Desk Relationship Officer
Lastly, The Managing Director approved the request to establish a Desk Relationship Officer to serve as a liaison between NISO and NIEEE. The Relationship Officer will interface with both organizations, coordinate engagements, and ensure sustained collaboration between the Institute and the industry.
The Courtesy visit concluded successfully, marking the beginning of a strengthened partnership between the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO).
