The President of the Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN), Engr. Kunle Adebajo, FNSE, who is also a Past Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja Branch, has called for greater inclusivity, dialogue and collaboration within the engineering profession as a means of fostering unity and sustainable development.
Leading a delegation on a courtesy visit to the National Engineering Centre, Abuja, the ACEN President congratulated the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, on his election and wished him a successful tenure.
Engr. Adebajo said the visit was aimed at reaffirming the longstanding relationship between ACEN and the NSE while encouraging continuous engagement among all stakeholders in the engineering profession.
While stressing the need for dialogue, mutual understanding and the deliberate inclusion of all professional groups in advancing engineering practice in Nigeria, he noted that bringing people together and creating platforms for constructive engagement would strengthen the profession, promote harmony and enable engineers to contribute more effectively to national development.
Responding, the NSE President, Engr. Rabiu, appreciated the delegation for the visit and their goodwill towards the Society.
He disclosed that plans were already underway to effectively manage the recurring leadership struggles and facilitate the convergence of engineering divisions, taking into account the peculiarities of engineering practice within Nigeria’s industrial landscape.
Engr. Rabiu observed that the current situation, where several engineering divisions and chapters approach the same organisations and institutions for sponsorship and support, was becoming increasingly worrisome and counterproductive.
He urged NSE branches and divisions to distinguish themselves through excellence, innovation and impactful programmes rather than relying on group dynamics or competing for limited sponsorship opportunities.
According to the NSE President, strengthening institutional capacity and delivering value would attract greater recognition and support for engineering activities across the country.
