According to the project lead, Tanwa Iwayemi, the project delivered a powerful 250-kilowatt-hour solar photovoltaic system designed to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency. She also said each floor has its own PV and battery system, allowing future expansion. “This project marks a major step toward the Lagos State government’s goal of achieving smarter, sustainable infrastructure. The solar solution provided clean, stable power for our critical security and communication systems, helping us maintain high service standards,” Iwayemi said.
Despite significant engineering challenges due to the building’s eight-floor structure and an open terrace roof, the team prioritised safety, employing fire-resistant wiring, strict PPE use, and compliance with electrical standards. “Installing 132 panels on that roof wasn’t easy. Cable routing, heavy equipment transport without elevators, and managing both the building and the car park array made it structurally complex,” said Iwayemi.
The project, which was delivered over three-year phases from site inspection to final system mounting, was meticulously executed. Engr. Adekunle, Site Electrical Engineer with Metrol Fittings, described the experience as transformative.
“Though I come from an electrical background, this project gave me solid hands-on experience with solar installation. I’ve gained the confidence to recommend and execute similar projects in the future,” he said
He further noted that the successful deployment of bifacial solar panels, inverters, and fire-resistant wiring is proving its value in kilowatt-hours and in real-time performance for mission-critical technology systems.
Zglob Engineering Services Limited, responsible for deploying advanced communication and security infrastructure across the complex, reports flawless operation since the integration of the solar solution.
“Our network of Cisco routers, Hikvision access systems, Grandstream IP PBX, and more all require uninterrupted, stable power,” said Engr. Richard Madu. “Thanks to the solar PV and battery system, we’ve experienced seamless operations without a single system crash or delay due to power failure.”.
