Earlier this week precisely on Monday, 11th August 2025, the president of NIA led a distinguished delegation of the NIA Council and senior members of the Institute on a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny T. Echono, FNIA, PPNIA, at the TETFund Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit, held in the spirit of our UNITE Agenda, was aimed at deepening institutional partnerships and exploring opportunities for infrastructure development in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. In her address, the president reaffirmed the NIA’s readiness to collaborate with TETFund in key areas such as capacity building and support for research and innovation in architecture through sponsorship of NIA journals.
She also acknowledged “the critical role TETFund plays in bridging the infrastructure gap in higher education and praised Arc. Echono’s visionary leadership has significantly impacted the quality of learning environments across the country, urging him to collaborate with NIA in organising Architectural Competitions for iconic projects in our tertiary institutions. His dual identity as a Past President of the NIA and a national education leader has made him a valuable ally in advancing our shared goals.”
Arc. Echono, in turn, expressed appreciation for the visit and pledged continued support for initiatives that promote architectural excellence and national development. While acceding to most of the Institute’s requests, he promised to continue to support the NIA as a major stakeholder in its affairs.
“This engagement not only strengthened our ties with TETFund but also reaffirmed the power of unity, collaboration, and purposeful leadership in driving the profession and education infrastructure sector forward.”
The NIA team left the meeting with renewed hope and a stronger resolve to work together for the future of architecture in Nigeria.
