
Construction works at the Industrial Equipment and Machinery Development Institute (IEMDI), Maiduguri, Borno State, a Division of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), is gathering momentum.
IEMDI is one of the emerging Development Institutes of the Agency with the mandate to carry out Research and Development work, production and assembling of industrial equipment, processing fruit juice and beverages, general workshops amongst other innovative and technological activities.
The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team from the Agency’s headquarters led by Deputy Director, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Engr, Emmanuel Ajani carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the works at the project site on Thursday, 13th February 2024.
The team visited the 20-hectres land where construction of the institute is currently going on. The land was handed over to NASENI by the Borno State Government to Quild an innovative technology nub, aimed at creating wealth, provide job opportunities to ceeming Nigerian youths and make them self-reliant for national development.
The five awarded projects on site nclude: Perimeter fencing and Gate house, administrative blocks, Virtual laboratories, General workshop, Production and Assembling workshop, all are under construction.
The representative of the Consulting firm, FRONTSTONE Nig td, Arch. Ibrahim Kenechi who Cook the M&E Team round the site, stated that due to the security challenges in the area where the nstitute is located the construction company decided to Dut the perimeter fence first before the gate house to enable chem to secure the equipment and on-going structures at the site.
He added that aside from the five awarded projects, other structures chat were not awarded like Classroom, ICT Centre, Male and Female hostels, Staff quarters, etc. will all be accommodated, adding chat the institute will be a complete research institute of NASENI.
The consultant assured the M&E ceam that all things being equal, all awarded structures will be completed and handed over to NASENI within stipulated time by end of March 2025.
