… Rector, Dr. Kadiri hails group for generous donations
As part of efforts to help develop an informed and enlightened society through increasing access to books, the Chairman, Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) Bldr. S.A. Opaluwah, represented by the Chairman NIOB Kwara state chapter, Bldr. Opoola Abdulmajeed, and a retired Lecturer from the Department of Building Technology, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Bldr. Abdulrashid Dayo Shittu, FNIOB, through his Foundation, came together on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024 to donate volumes of different sets of books to the Department of Building Technology, Federal Polytechnic Offa.
Speaking when making the donation at the Rector’s office, Bldr. Abdulrashid, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Shittu A.D said the aim of the philanthropic gesture is to restore better reading culture, provide better research materials for students, and choosing Federal Polytechnic Offa as a beneficiary was based on merit. He added that the books donation is in recognition of the research activities of the Polytechnic and the giant strides being recorded under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru, saying efforts should be made to assist the institution to soar higher. “It is in a bid to earnestly develop the human capital of Nigeria that I and my foundation have come out to today to make these very essential books and vital resource materials available to the Department of Building Technology. We are therefore not disappointed as our choice of FEDPOFFA was done on merit,” Bldr. Abdulrashid explained.
While expressing gratitude on behalf of the Governing Council, Management and the entire Polytechnic community, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, FNSE commended the donors for their kind gestures, saying they were rare books and that the huge volume of publications donated will be of good use to all staff and students in the School of Environmental Technology, in particular, students in the Department of Building Technology. “We accept these books with gratitude, we know the value of what you are giving to us for free, because you had a vision, a noble idea that you believed should be shared with the over 200 students in the Department of Building Technology, and by extension, School of Environmental Technology. We assure you that we will utilize the books in a manner that its message will be optimised among our students and staff.”
While hailing the donation, HOD, Building Technology, Bldr. Aliyu S.F was full of gratitude to the donors over the selfless humanitarian gesture. “This patriotic service according to the HOD would not only fortify the reading culture of the students but would also keep them away from the social vices plaguing the nation. “Today marks a historic event in the Department of Building Technology. The 49 books donated cover wider areas in multidisciplinary research relevant to the field of Building Technology, i.e. Building Construction, Tendering and Estimating, Facility Management, Soil Mechanics, Block Laying and Surveying etc. We promised the donors that the books will be put to judicious use,” Bldr. Aliyu stated.
The highpoint of the presentation was the official handover of the books by the donors to the Rector who was flanked by the Deputy Registrar, Rectory, Mrs. J.F. Egbele, Dean, School of Environmental Technology, Bldr. Alabi J.O; Director of UNESCO-UNEVO, Bldr Lawal .B.A; Chief Instructor Department of Building Technology, Bldr Aroyehun K.F, and a staff of the Public Relations Unit
