The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, has commissioned a newly constructed block of four (4) toilets at LEA Primary School Durumi 1, Garki, Abuja, as part of the NSE Abuja Branch’s community engineering project initiative. The facility aims to address the critical need for proper sanitation in the school, promoting a conducive learning environment.
In her remarks during the commissioning ceremony, NSE President highlighted the significance of the project as part of NSE’s broader mission to advance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education at the foundational level. She emphasized that the provision of these toilets represents a crucial step in ensuring quality education by addressing one of the major barriers faced by students, particularly in underserved areas like Durumi 1.
“This initiative is in line with the NSE’s commitment to national development, public welfare, and the creation of a conducive learning environment that is essential for the growth and development of our young minds,” NSE President stated. She commended the efforts of all those involved in bringing the project to fruition.
In his welcome address, Engr. Ben Osy-Okoh, FNSE, Chairman of NSE Abuja Branch, recounted the origin of the project.
The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Augustina Suleiman, expressed her gratitude to the NSE and noted that top officials from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) were thrilled by the Society’s commitment to improving the educational experience of the pupils.
This project marks another milestone in NSE’s ongoing efforts to contribute to community development and support the educational sector across the country.
