The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has reiterated its steadfast commitment to the success and progression of the International Federation of Engineering Societies (IFES) within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
This pledge was made by Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, President and Chairman-in-Council of the NSE, during a closed-door meeting of IFES founding members held today at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Chengdu, China.
The high-level gathering convened leaders from various founding engineering institutions worldwide, serving as a pivotal platform for strategic collaboration.
Discussions focused on establishing an inclusive global framework to foster engineering innovation, sustainability, infrastructure resilience, and reciprocal growth within the international engineering community.
As a proud founding member of IFES, a multilateral platform dedicated to enhancing engineering cooperation across continents, the NSE’s involvement underscores its growing international influence and dedication to contributing significantly to global engineering development.
In her remarks, the NSE President stressed the importance of IFES programs being responsive to the developmental context and critical needs of each member nation.
“A one-size-fits-all approach may not effectively address the unique realities and challenges faced by different countries. IFES must be intentional in responding to those differences,” she stated.
She further reaffirmed the NSE’s commitment to engineering excellence, international collaboration, and the ongoing professional development of Nigerian engineers in line with evolving global standards.
Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abeokuta Branch, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, FNSE, and a member of the Academy Committee of the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO), represented the NSE President at the meeting.
Engr. Idowu had also previously represented the Society during the landmark 2024 agreement to join IFES at the International Engineering Congress.
